"Oh, @matthewthehorse. Thank you for making your beautiful brain available to purchase! 'Forwards Always' is a book of poetry to be read aloud. It comes with beautiful illustrations, playful quips and affirming slaps to the face. I bloody love it. You can pick up the book and see/buy prints at @coloursmayvary. Own a copy and shove it under the nose of everyone you know. There's not a soul that won't appreciate it." - Instagram post, June '17
Stumbling across Matthew the Horse's work was a serendipitous opportunity created by the thoughtful folk at Colours May Vary, Becky and Andy. Since developing a gallery/event space alongside their beautiful shop, they have actual walls with which to celebrate the creative people they know and rate: Matthew the Horse was apparently high on their list.
This is how the poet describes himself:
'Matthew the Horse is a graphic artist and poet. He likes other people, the woods and ripe fruit. He is not a horse. Matthew is interested in the lexicon of silliness, uninhibited play and the language of drawing. He wants to make work that feels both familiar and weird at the same time, like boiled eggs. This is his first book of poetry. He loves to dance.'
And I'd say that love of dance (and words) is infectious.
